Ben Sanders Illustrator
Web Design & Development + SEO
Ben Sanders is a world renowned Illustrator and Author from Australia. He has commissioned work for companies such as the Wall Street Journal, Toyota, Cadbury and Saatchi & Saatchi to name a few.
Ben’s old website was clunky, hard to update and did not work on mobile or tablet devices so he was after a site that would address those issues. He also had a separate blog with Blogspot also that he wanted to migrate over to the new site and have everything in one place.
- Responsive Touch friendly Design
- Easy to manage and update
- Integration of the current blog
- Ability to download high resolution images
- Fast at loading a lot of images
After sitting down with Ben and gathering all the requirements; Ben had given me a rough idea of what he wanted. I decided to put his beautiful artwork first and foremost on the site came up with a design (along with some design input from Ben) to best showcase his Artwork using an image slider.
A requirement from Ben was the ability for potential clients to download high resolution images of his artwork so I designed a project section that sits on the top right of the homepage, which gives the Project Name, client and a download link/button to the high resolution image.
Ben also wanted to migrate his blogspot blog over to the new site so I needed to design a blog and post page that will be built into the site. I decided to keep things as simple as possible by designing a card based layout with little distractions which I think best suites Bens site and even Bens style of minimalist art.
The challenge was designing an image slider that was fast, touch friendly and could scale down to mobile and tablet as well as integrate other things like the project name and client.
The end result is a smooth image slider that can showcase Ben’s artwork on any device the user is on.
I integrated Google Tag Manager with Ben’s Google Analytics to give him the best insights possible of how users are browsing his site. Ben now has realtime information on who is downloading what as well as how they are getting in contact with him.
I also added a Json+LD schema for his blog to best take advantage of Google’s rich snippets when searching. Ben’s blog posts are also synchronised with his Facebook Page via an RSS Feed and IFTTT.
